Muzzy Pheasant Farm
Winter Hunt - January 17, 2026
Over the past few years, the GLAWSC has formed a relationship with the Great Lakes Boykin Spaniel Club (GLBSC) and held joint events during the year. The events have included combined training sessions, covering both upland and waterfowl training, as well as fun events like outings at local pheasant hunting preserves.
On January 17, 2026, members of both clubs participated in a hunt at Muzzy Pheasant Farm located in Corunna, MI. There was a total of 45 attendees and approximately 30 dogs that participated in the event with more than 150 birds released in the fields. The breeds included American Water Spaniels, Boykin Spaniels, English Cocker Spaniels, Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Pudelpointer, Airedale, Golden Retriever, and a Wirehaired Visla. The group utilized three separate fields between 8:00am and 5:30pm.
Participants had the opportunity to win a variety of door prizes and a raffle as a bonus to the potluck meal and camaraderie of the day. Also included, for those interested, was a competitive timed hunt. Contestants were timed on how long it would take two gunners and their dog to harvest three pheasants. As an added twist to this fun competition, there were penalties for the number of shells used and the gauge of the gun. Whoever took the most birds in the shortest amount of time, using the least number of shells, and the smallest shotgun bore, would probably win the event.
Although there was initially a five-way tie for first place, GLAWSC member Steve Beckman and his guest Mike Rivenburgh, along with Steve’s AWS Reggie, won the event, having used .410 shotguns. Fine shooting and great dog work allowed this team to capture the top prize.
Relationships like this are but one of the advantages to having a local club helping members train their dogs and build relationships with people of like mind. We look forward to continuing this wonderful association in the future.
